Capturing Tree Surgery in Action: A Content Project with GlasGrow.
Updated: 1 hour ago
How a video enquiry turned into a complete library of photography, social content and promotional footage for GlasGrow.
When GlasGrow got in touch, they were looking for a video advert.
After chatting through the project and what they wanted to achieve, it became clear there was an opportunity to create more than a single video.
We were already going to be on site over two days documenting a large tree removal project, so alongside filming, we suggested capturing a bank of photography they could use across their website and social media.
When you've got the team together, machinery on site and an interesting job underway, it's the perfect opportunity to create content that can keep delivering value long after the job is done.

Lights, Camera, Chainsaw.
The project followed the removal of two large trees. Filming jobs like this means being ready when the moment comes. Once a tree is down, it's down. There's no second take.
The first had to be dismantled carefully, with branches removed one by one before the remaining trunk could be felled safely. It wasn't a case of simply cutting it down. The team worked their way through the tree in stages, giving us plenty of opportunities to capture both the process and the skill involved.
Throughout both days, we were documenting more than just the tree removal itself. Alongside the key video footage, we captured team shots, staff portraits and action photography showing the GlasGrow crew at work. From chainsaw operation and lifting machinery to processing branches and tidying the site once the job was complete, every stage gave us an opportunity to capture authentic content that reflected the work, the people and the expertise behind the business.

Beyond the Hero Video
It's rare that a video only ends up in one place. These days, creating content isn't just about producing one final video. It needs to work across social media, websites, advertising campaigns and future marketing.
That's why everything was filmed in both horizontal and vertical formats from the outset. It takes a little more planning during filming, but it means the footage can be used across multiple platforms without compromising on quality.
Giving GlasGrow that flexibility meant they came away with content ready to use wherever they needed it, without having to think about reformatting or reshooting further down the line.

Making The Most Of The Day
Alongside video, we captured photography throughout both days on site.
That included team shots, staff portraits and action photography showing the crew at work. From chainsaw operation and branch processing to lifting machinery, blowers and site tidy-up, the aim was to capture the business as it really is.
The result was a collection of professional photography that not only supported the video project, but also gave GlasGrow fresh content for their website, social media channels and advertising.

What GlasGrow Took Away
By the end of the project, GlasGrow had a promotional video, shorter social edits and a collection of professional photography captured throughout the shoot.
What started as a video advert became a complete content library, giving GlasGrow fresh assets for their website, social media and wider marketing for months to come.

Every business has opportunities to create great content. Whether you've got a one-off project coming up or you're looking to build a consistent bank of photo and video content, get in touch with the Squinty Pixels team to chat about your next shoot!
