Squinty Pixels X Freedom Boat Club: Behind the Lens at Loch Lomond

Outdoor shoots are where video production becomes its own kind of adventure. Light shifts, the typical Scottish weather changes every ten minutes and the landscape gives you something new every time you turn around. All of this creates a setting that feels alive in a way studios rarely can. Our two-day shoot with Freedom Boat Club Loch Lomond had all of this, plus beautiful scenery and the kind of moments you couldn't even plan if you tried.

Why Video Matters for Outdoor and Adventure Brands

Outdoor businesses rely heavily on experience. You can describe a day on the water, but nothing communicates it better than letting people see it for themselves. For clubs like Freedom Boat Club, video isn't just marketing, it's how you show potential members what being part of the community actually feels like. High-quality visuals build trust, set expectations, and help people imagine themselves there. That's why outdoor brands benefit so much from cinematic drone work - and let's be honest, it just looks really cool.

Capturing Majestic Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond doesn't need dramatic editing or heavy filters. It's naturally cinematic with huge stretches of water, shifting light, and a backdrop that looks good from almost any angle. Our job wasn't to exaggerate it, just to capture what a day on the water actually feels like.

Drone work is what lets us do that. Smooth movement, proper scale and premium graded footage give weight to moments that deserve it. We also use slow motion which helps hold onto details you’d miss at normal speed - water breaking, reflections on the water, boats cutting through the loch. Used properly, it elevates the story without ever feeling forced.

Two Days on the Water

Freedom Boat Club wanted a full refresh of their visual content, so we planned two days that covered as much variety as possible.

Across the shoot we captured:

  • Ground (and water) footage around the marina and on the boats

  • Aerial passes over the loch

  • Boats in motion

  • Client testimonials

  • Real member moments and natural interactions

Outdoor content works best when it feels like you’re right there. Movement is everything, and the drone lets us follow all of it. It also works best when we capture moments naturally. There’s nothing more awkward than watching an ad or seeing a social media post that’s clearly staged for the sake of the video. You’re not actors and we don’t want you to be. We let you get on with what you’re good at, and we’ll stay out of your road (for the most part) and capture real moments that people can feel through video. No gimmicks.

Planning an Outdoor Filming Day

Outdoor shoots need flexibility. Weather windows change, boats need to be coordinated, and timing matters for light on the loch. Before filming, we work with clients to plan:

  • Key moments to capture

  • Safety considerations on the water

  • Boat routes and timings

  • Interactions we want to follow

  • The best times of day for light

Preparation keeps the day efficient, but staying adaptable is what makes outdoor shoots work.

Our Kit for Outdoor Cinematic Work

Outdoor brands deserve visuals that match the scale of their environment. That’s why we invest heavily in our equipment. This includes drones, cameras, stabilisation systems, and in-house colour grading. All of this kit lets us create cinematic footage that feels clean, modern, and does the location justice.

A Full Content Haul and One Very Happy Client

By the end of the two days we had a huge amount of material, over 450 videos and more than 250 images. Content for their website, ads, and enough to keep their socials busy for months.

The final library included:

  • Testimonial videos

  • Short-form social clips

  • Cinematic shots

  • Drone videos

  • Plenty of stills

Outdoor brands grow when they show the real experience, and drone work lets us capture moments you simply can’t get from the ground.

Why Outdoor and Adventure Businesses Choose Squinty Pixels

Outdoor brands are different, and the way you film them has to match that. We focus on the feeling of being out there, not just the activity itself.

Here’s how we work:

  • Story-first filming

  • Clean, modern visuals

  • A mix of drone, handheld, and location audio

  • A calm, collaborative presence on set

  • Large sets of deliverables that work across every platform

Good outdoor videos aren’t staged and we’ve found over the years that the best shots aren’t always planned, they’re the ones that happen naturally when we’re paying attention.

A Massive Thank You to the Freedom Boat Club Team

Mike and Ashlee looked after us from start to finish and yes, Jamie did end up in a giant inflatable. The slow-mo evidence is already being edited and it’s really something.

Want to Tell Your Outdoor Story Properly?

Your business is different, so the way you capture it should be too. Squinty Pixels can help you tell that story in a way that feels real. Loch Lomond was just one example of what we can do, and we’re ready for whatever adventure comes next!
